Job Title: Agricultural Quality Control Supervisor
Location: Remote, Lagos State
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Overview
The Agricultural Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and enforcing end-to-end Quality Control (QC) systems across the entire supply chain – from initial vendor sourcing and pickup to final delivery. Operating remotely with a high degree of administrative and operational oversight, the QC Supervisor controls field inspectors to ensure all agricultural commodities meet strict physical, chemical, and safety standards.
Rather than conducting daily on-site inspections directly, this role functions as the central quality command: driving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), auditing incoming vendor test results, managing non-conformance escalations, and maintaining 100% end-to-end product traceability.
Key Responsibilities
1. QC System Ownership & End-to-End Governance.
- Design, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for commodity quality inspection, grading, sampling, and moisture/foreign matter testing.
- Establish clear Acceptance/Rejection Quality Limits (AQL) for all agricultural commodities sourced across regional suppliers and farms subject to buyers’ specifications.
- Create standard inspection checklists, and receiving quality verification frameworks.
2. Vendor & Supplier Quality Control
- Direct and monitor vendors, suppliers, and aggregators to ensure strict adherence to quality parameters before commodities leave the farmgate or warehouse.
- Review and validate all vendor quality certifications, moisture control logs, and batch lab results prior to authorizing pickup or dispatch.
- Evaluate supplier performance continuously; conduct periodic remote quality audits and issue Corrective Action Requests (CAR) for recurring non-compliance.
3. Remote Oversight of Field Operations & Logistics
- Manage field QC agents/inspectors remotely, assigning inspection schedules and reviewing physical verification reports in real time.
- Monitor quality parameters during key supply chain nodes: vendor loading, transit conditions (temperature, moisture, bagging/packaging integrity), and warehouse offloading.
- Implement strict traceability standards to track lot numbers, batch origins, and storage conditions from vendor pickup to final client supply.
4. Testing Protocols, Documentation & Reporting
- Oversee sampling protocols sent for third-party or internal laboratory testing (e.g., aflatoxin levels, purity, moisture percentage, oil content, defects).
- Centralize, review, and maintain all quality inspection records, certificate of analysis (CoA) logs, non-conformance reports, and rejection logs.
- Generate weekly and monthly Quality Analytics Reports for leadership, highlighting vendor yield rates, rejection trends, spoilage loss, and corrective actions taken.
5. Issue Escalation & Resolution
- Act as the final decision-maker on borderline or non-conforming commodity batches.
- Manage supplier disputes regarding rejected loads, ensuring evidence-based documentation is compiled and resolved fairly.
- Coordinate with operations, procurement and logistics vendors to halt compromised shipments before they reach client locations or processing facilities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Food Science & Technology, Agronomy, Quality Management, or a related field.
2. Experience: Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive experience in agricultural quality assurance, commodity trading QC, or food safety management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordinator role.
3. Commodity Knowledge: Deep understanding of grain, oilseed, or general dry commodity grading, moisture analysis, infestation prevention, and storage standards (e.g., SON, Codex Alimentarius, export specifications).
4.Vendor Management: Proven track record of managing supplier compliance and holding third-party vendors accountable to strict contract specifications.
5. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets for data tracking, reporting dashboards, and digital inspection software/ERP systems (e.g., Odoo).
Key Competencies
1. Systemic Quality Mindset: Ability to map out an operational workflow and embed QC check-gates at every critical control point.
2. Assertive Vendor Control: Strong negotiation and communication skills to enforce standards and reject non-compliant goods without compromising business relationships.
3. Analytical & Detail-Oriented: High accuracy in reviewing lab test sheets, spotting data anomalies, and identifying root causes of commodity degradation.
4. Remote Leadership: Ability to coordinate, instruct, and hold field personnel and vendors accountable remotely.
Preferred Working Conditions
1. Primary work setup is Remote (Lagos State), utilizing digital reporting, video verification, and data tools.
2. Occasional travel to key aggregation sites, warehouses, or vendor facilities may be required for high-stakes audits or setting up initial QC protocols.
