Afterhours/Weekend Surgery Floater Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3 VMTH) Jobs in Davis, CA at University of California, Davis

Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis. Responsible for ensuring patient care standards for hospitalized patients, aseptic preparation of patients for various surgical procedures, operating room set up, circulation, break down and providing anesthesia support, including induction, monitoring, and post-surgical recovery of patients. Additional, responsibilities include student instruction as well as client communication and education, including patient admissions and discharges. Work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments towards achieving Surgery services objectives.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications – For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License.
No minimum education requirement.
Experience to independently provide treatment of patients whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis.
Experience working in a veterinary hospital performing physical examinations and safe handling of multiple species.
Experience calculating drug dosages and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
Experience with surgical asepsis and how it relates to direct contamination of patients, instruments and sterile supplies.
Experience performing venipuncture, placing vascular catheters inducing anesthesia, monitoring anesthesia, and recovering patients from anesthesia, working independently with and without direct supervision.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients and the skill to recognize and manage difficult situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in preparing O.R. and related areas, procure, set-up and review basic surgical equipment, instruments and supplies prior to and after surgery.
Experience positioning and preparing patients for various surgical procedures.
Experience with aseptically scrubbing, gowning and gloving. Experience setting up, operating and troubleshooting various specialized surgical equipment.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work occasional overtime and various hours on short notice (including covering staff shortages, weekends and holiday shifts). Work under Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients. May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
